Snowdonia in November. : In November our crazy vegan friend Vanessa suddenly decided to trek to Everest base camp, with just a few weeks to train. So, we decided to help her. We loaded her pack (and ours - why should she have all the fun!) with rocks and attempted to climb Mt Snowdon and the entire Glyderau mountain range in Snowdonia during a weekend.

Vegan 15 Peaks Challenge, Snowdonia, in June. : On Saturday the 5th of June I joined seven other completely crazy vegans in an attempt to climb all 15 Welsh peaks over 3,000 feet in a single day. In total we covered around 43 km and ascended some 4,000 m, in just over 20 hours. We climbed all 15 peaks and even did one of them twice! Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge in April. : Our intrepid team of fearless vegans braved the wildest, tallest and most impenetrably boggy parts of Yorkshire (ably assisted by our long-suffering guide), to complete the famed Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge: 38 km and 1,600 m of ascent, in under 12 hours. Why did we do this? To train for something even horribler, of course! Cairngorms, Scotland, in March. : After many tedious weeks, Jasmijn successfully reached a half-way point in her research about the uptake of alternatives to animal experiments; and so we headed to the Cairngorms for a 3 day break. They're accessible by train (8 hours from London), thereby minimising carbon emissions, and the coldest winter for decades promised outstanding snow. Day 1 was spent falling from snowboards in ungainly heaps. On Day 2 we enthusiastically abandoned the boards, donned skies, and hiked to the top of Cairn Gorm mountain. On Day 3 we hiked 20 km along snowy forest trails.
