In October Jasmijn had the mad idea of doing a day trip to the Isle of Wight (from London!). And so we got up before dawn and travelled hundreds of miles (well, nearly), to experience the full force of English autumn...

We started our coastal hike in Ventnor. From there we planned to walk most of the South-West coast.
All around us the English were hard at work, desperately preparing for the winter weather notorious on this unsheltered coast, as they have done for generations. (STILL sceptical about climate change anyone!?!)
A decade or so ago they'd probably be selling snow shovels at this time of year.
After stocking up on carbohydrates (ie, stuffing ourselves with chips!), we headed off into the fearsome wilds.
We had to contend with dangerous, thorny hedges...
Scary flowers...
After battling for hours (well, minutes at least) through the wilds we stumbled, hot and thirsty into this isolated former fishing hamlet. It was time for another drink break, and some shelter from the elements (i.e., shade).
Soon, however, we forged on once more, to punish ourselves further on this wild, desolate and wintry coast.
At least, for a few minutes, before our next break.
