Australian Wildlife 2005

Australia was blessed with an amazing population of bizarre animals, such as numbats, woylies, chuditches, quokkas, platypuses, flying foxes, and many, many more … until the white men came. They thought it would be cute to have rabbits in the gardens English mansions their slaves (convicts) built. They rapidly ate their way across the desert to the far reaches of the country, followed by the feral cats and foxes … Combined with habitat destruction to make way for farms, and logging, feral animals have given us the world record for mammal extinctions. Within 200 years nearly all mammals between mouse and dingo size became rare or extinct. We had a go at the aborigines too, who have lived in harmony with their environment for millennia. Most of them survived, but their culture, with the exception of a few small pockets, has been annihilated. Yet Australians are usually proud of their culture and history … why do you think I left ... actually the rest of the industrialized world is just as bad. At least we have the best beaches.

Kangaroo

These guys are everywhere. You usually see them dead at the side of the road, after being hit by cars. We also kill several million of these gentle creatures annually for the pet food and exotic meat industries.
