The English countryside is very green, on account of there being a lot of rain.
Sometimes there is lightening...
There are many sheep ... and stone walls everywhere, at least in the Yorkshire Dales, most of which have been there for hundreds of years.
And the occasional ruined abbey.
The Peak District in the middle of England is made of limestone and filled with caves, into which there are regular expeditions!
This unbelievably huge church is the largest gothic cathedral in northern Europe. It towers over the extremely pretty town of York (which is filled with other churches and ancient ruins). It was built on a Norman cathedral about 1,000 yrs old, and a roman fort about 2,000 yrs old. Tours of the catacombs reveal both, as well as the treasury and an ancient skeleton! Lots of dead priests are buried beneath carved slabs in the floor ... amazing!
