After telling my team for at least an hour the summit was close, this cliff edge suddenly loomed out of the fog. This fastest descent into five fingers gully has claimed a number of unwary hikers. However, it meant that the summit really was close, at last.
And here it is, the highest point in the whole of the UK, at 1,344 m. The snow was so deep the ruined stone buildings nearby were more than half buried. We dared not take our hands out of our gloves to check our thermometer, for the next hour. With the wind chill it was at least -15C. This is spring on Ben Nevis - it was May.
The finish at 12:27 = 23:25 mins overall!
