Overland Track, Tasmania, in December.

Just before Christmas, we loaded up our packs, feasted on a final meal, and headed off deep into the Tasmanian wilderness.     Finally, with great reluctance (and freezing fingers!) it was time to descend, all the way down to Kia Ora hut. This view of Mt Ossa was taken from Pinestone Valley.
    Hut life. Dinner was a very sociable affair, in the smaller huts. This extremely nice and informative ranger appeared (they patrol the trail intermittently) and checked we all had permits. If not, they send you back to the start - a 4 day walk at that point!
