Peruvian lecture tour in August

In August I was invited by Peruvian organisation UPA to deliver a lecture tour on humane teaching methods, animal experimentation, the animal welfare standards of veterinarians, and other animal protection topics. They worked me hard – I delivered 20 main presentations primarily at four conferences, participated in eight veterinary and medical school meetings with faculty members, four alternatives exhibitions, and five press conferences and media interviews. However, they also fed me well, and gave me a little time off to explore the Andes (see pics). Don't miss the published story of this adventure! I'm grateful to Swiss organization AG STG for sponsoring the tour, and to InterNICHE for supplying the alternatives.

The highlight of the day was when we presented the veterinary school academics with copies of my books at the end of the day. There had been a recent campaign, covered in the local media, about their terminal dog labs, and because of this relations with them had been tense (I believe the same was true of the medical school there). But here these senior vet school faculty took the microphone and told us all that 'their eyes had been opened, and they were going to go and seriously consider humane teaching methods'. It was just incredible. The faculty responses were almost always positive, but given their history of harmful animal use, this was one of the most significant.
Once again the media were quite interested, covering our conference several times in the Tacna media outlets.
As with the other conferences, we had a colourful alternatives exhibit.
