Australia in February

In February I was fortunate enough to be invited to tour Australia by Humane Research Australia and the Anti-Vivisection Union of South Australia, to speak on the themes of my book The Costs and Benefits of Animal Experiments, which was recently released in paperback. I'm extremely grateful to them, and to the Cruelty Free Shop in Sydney, who kindly sponsored my tour.

That's Pelican Point, in front of the Uni of WA (to the right). I once tried to swim across the river from the Uni to the far shore (left). After 90 mins I was only as far as the point, trying not to think about the sharks (rare) or giant jellyfish (common). I was then hauled out by the water police, after straying into the shipping lane and nearly being run down by an ocean-going tourist ferry which reported me. I thought they were going to arrest me... Instead they invited me to join the next police triathlon! Not feeling I was a good enough swimmer I declined however, which they seemed to find most amusing...
King's Park, above the city. This avenue of trees is sometimes lit up at night. I've spent many an awesome run flying down the footpath here... I'm a spoilt runner - I only like running in beautiful places.
I was thrilled to discover they'd created a wetlands in the heart of the city...
