Leaving the high country we got this great view of the main range. I had quite an adventure here in my early 20s. I camped on the top of two of the highest mountains then hiked straight down to the road. I dropped (sometimes literally head over heels) 1800 m in one day, lost and refound the (closed) trail more times than I could count, and only just made it out by dark. Those were the days... :)
The Snowies have several hydroelectric power stations suppling green energy :)
Finally, we made it to Mt Beauty, where we stayed in this beautiful place. We came for my great uncle's 104th birthday. Sadly, he was very ill and only just made his 105th year, before peacefully passing away in hospital surrounded by family and friends. Still, 104+ is not bad, especially when it includes several decades in this beautiful place...
