At last, the big day dawned bright and sunny, thanks to our careful long-term weather planning. Andrew and his party met at the base of the Mountain railway station in Llanberis by 08:15am.
Oddly, Dr Mike arrived in a T-shirt and flip-flops. I had to remind him that despite the clear skies, it was after all Wales' highest mountain. He then disappeared for an alarmingly long time (and almost missed the Sherpa bus to the trailhead...)
Just as we were about to abandon the missing Dr Mike, a giant yeti bounded out of the carpark! With an accent oddly like Mike's! Yetis are always most welcome, and we all went on our merry way...
Sherpa bus to trailhead
With his yeti cap, my brother Michael (also a GP) had expected to be the star of the party, but...
But Dr Mike outdid him, with his full-length yeti costume!
Meanwhile, Jasmijn's party met at Nantperis Maes Parcio car park (between Llanberis and Pen-y-Pass) at 08:30am
Andrew's party departed for the Pyg Track and Crib Gogh route at 09:10am
One of us at least, was appropriately dressed for mountain heights!
Jasmijn's party set off via the Miner’s track at 09:20
Arriving at the start of the infamous Crib Gogh, the most precipitous knife-edged ridge on the British mainland (beaten only by the Cuillin Ridge on the Isle of Skye)
A few clouds appeared to be heading in. But no worries - we'd carefully timed this for the best weather of the year!
